Loose and casual graphic-blogging with random thoughts and links to interesting things.
I dont have a tumblr & your askbox doesnt allow anon so im submitting it through here. I hope you dont mind; I really love your blog!
it was a simple shop but honestly I think Korra looks more like herself when she has darker hair and skin; I barely recognized her in yr submission
also people seem to have trouble w/ lighting. Here ( http://i.imgur.com/iiaYA.jpg ) is a tut for skintones. :)
CC: BLESS THIS MUTHAFUCKIN SUBMISSION
Because I see the bullshit reblogs and the wack ass explanations and I’m not even going to bother because those whiteness-upholding assholes can stay pressed.
As you can see in the photo, illumination is expressed AND THE SHADOWS ON KORRA’S FACE PORTRAY HER UNILLUMINATED SKIN COLOR.
WHICH IS BROWN
Light makes skin lighter.
You bitches must live on the fucking Sun.
This would be more correct if there were spots on her cheeks that were really light/orangey/yellow/red to reflect the flame, but based on the way it was originally colored, this is as correct as it’s gonna get.
This is hilarious. This is an argument so important, a World of Warcraft guild has diverted precious online time (which could otherwise be spent on a raid or something, so you know they’re seriously making a sacrifice) to scouring the Intarwubs for racist programming. In the form of fan art.
A talented young artist drew a picture of the character Korra, from a spin-off of Avatar: the Last Airbender. I think. I have had zero interest in this series but a cursory online scan suggests this. I think her artwork is amazing, and from what I’ve seen in her other work, I don’t really detect a political agenda.
However, the fancifully named CAPSLOCK CREW has unpacked all their cuss-words and all their self-righteous indignation… or maybe it’s just one little pissant who keeps referring to himself as “we” because he’s not entirely secure in his position and wants to make it sound like he represents an angry mob. Like… the Black Panthers… or Anonymous. When actually he’s just part of a World of Warcraft guild, unless that guild is entirely separate from this and it’s just some jackoff who’s pretending he is, by himself, a mob and neglected to research whether that name was taken. This would make sense, since he quotes himself as “CC,” unaware this has for many decades meant “carbon copy,” like in business correspondence. Not really prone to research.
Anyway. This person/mob can find nothing better to do with their life than start a blog (ostensibly dedicated to calling out racist “white-washing” artwork everywhere but which is actually) entirely focused on personal attacks directed at a girl. Anyone else might approach the artist and gently ask, “Hey, uh, what was your motivation for that choice of colors in your illustration?” or even “Are you racist?” But that’s not CAPSLOCK CREW’s style, no. Politeness would be wussy and weak. No, everyone respects and admires a badass who immediately resorts to libel and harassment, especially when it’s in defense of racial purity.
What race are they defending? I think the lands in Avatar:TLA may be fictional, but it’s very important for the CAPSLOCK CREW to malign a real-life person in defense of a fictional ethnicity. Maybe there is a real-world precedent for Korra, a culture of brown-skinned, blue-eyed people with pyrokinesis. It’s important enough for them to take time away from grinding mobs, pick on a girl and declare her work un-art, then recolor it the way it is “supposed” to be (above).
They’re wasting too much time on this one artist, however. There are lots of other fan-art communities to feed on, and they even have to launch a self-important assault upon the original production. Because this is extremely important. Attacking people based on preconceived notions and misguided assumptions is way, way more important than hitting those dungeons in search of PVP-Epic Tier 13 armor sets (if by “more important” one means “easier”). Obviously, the best way to preserve respect and consideration is through hatred, insult, and self-righteousness. Obviously.
